RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A viral video of an 87-year-old man delivering a handwritten invitation to a simple neighborhood party has sparked a nationwide trend of people celebrating kindness and community.

Lonerider Brewery locations in the Triangle hosted the North Carolina edition of Doug’s Winter Party for a good cause.

It may seem like an usual form of entertainment — people gathering in the Triangle watching a live feed of an 87-year-old Pennsylvania man hosting a neighborhood party.

“Doug’s Winter Party is a viral TikTok sensation that happened where he delivered an invitation to his neighbors inviting them to a party,” explained Derek Tenbusch with Lonerider.

The idea of neighbors simply being neighborly drew the attention of people across the country including Tenbusch, who decided to send Doug some drinks and found his own video going viral.

“I was watching, and I said, ‘You know what? This guy seems so cool. I’m just going to try to send him some beer and some liquor for his party,’ so I recorded a TikTok thinking it would get 1,000 views 2,000 views. Before we knew it, it had 2.2 million views. People started asking us, ‘Can we have a party at your brewery?’”

Lonerider’s response, “Sure, let’s do it!”

Lonerider locations in Raleigh and Wake Forest held their own versions of Doug’s Winter Party along with various venues across the country, and in the spirit of being neighborly. The Lonerider parties raised money for Western North Carolina, where so many people are still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Helene.
